Digital leaders

The Internet age requires the development of Digital Intelligence to allow young people to make the most of the opportunities that technology grants them in their academic and personal lives. Under this premise, 'Digital Leaders', a project launched in the Valencian Community in 2019 by Fundación Telefónica and the Ministry of Education of the Generalitat with the goal of raising awareness of the responsible use of the Internet from an early age.

A total of 113 Telefónica Volunteers (company employees) designed during 2019 a series of workshops for the entire educational community (students, teachers and parents) which focussed on practical training to develop the 8 skills considered necessary to work on digital intelligence: screen time, privacy, identity and fingerprinting management; development of critical thinking and empathy; cybersecurity management and response to cyberbullying.

The first edition of the project started at 26 schools – chosen together with the Ministry of Education of the Generalitat – with 553 teachers, 512 parents, and 3,113 students between the ages of 8 and 16. The conclusion among educators has been unanimous at the schools where the project was implemented: 'We’re never told about the positive side of those technologies, only about the dangers. Digital Leaders has completely changed our way of viewing the reality of new technologies and we feel able to solve the doubts that both our students and children may have'.
